The Character of America

What is the character of America? Over the years the Character of America has changed slightly. In times past the Character of America has been Selflessness. Citizens have worked together to help each other and fight for a true and important cause, freedom of all men old, young, black, white, red, female, male, smart, and slow.

Why does freedom continually need to be protected? because there is always someone looking to take freedom away. When a person is given power it is very difficult for that person to give it up. It can be the same way with a corporation or a political party. The problem arises in a couple of ways. One way is that an individual or an enterprise believes that the average man is too foolish to decide for themselves. Another train of thought is that the individual or enterprise has enjoyed power for so long that they are unwilling to give it up and are willing to use unmoral acts to keep it such as lying, cheating, and stealing. I have seen every form in our government over the last year. Unfortunately I have also seen it in our citizens as well at an alarming rate. Republicans and democrats, religious, and atheist are all to blame.

No one seems to be willing to point to themselves as to the reason why the country is suffering. It doesn’t matter what type of society is in place both Capitalist, Socialist, Marxist or any other as long as the people in power and the people that make up the republic are not honest with their fellow men the society cannot function.

Both the man who defaults on his contract while still having the means to carry it out and the politician that receives benefits from corporations for obligations have crippled this country. The rich who complain of an increase in taxes and the man who could get a job at a fast food chain but would rather be on unemployment are also to blame. Tough time calls for tough measures, taxes need to be increased and benefits need to be cut. It’s time to stop the complaining and actually do something. Corporations that can’t cut it need to fail so that new Corporations can sprout up.

People on the Government bottle need to do what they can to get off even if that means working at a sucky job. Unions need to reduce their wages and benefits to the average in their field.

Times are tough and that means we need to be tough as well if we want our society to survive.
